April 2024

District Grant

Every year Rotary Clubs have the ability to apply for a District Grant.  The Ocean City - Berlin Rotary Club current president recommends a grant and if agreed upon by the Club and approved by the District, the grant is funded in the year following the president's term.  Clubs can request a maximum amount of $5,000.00 and can receive up to 80% of their request.  Following strict guidelines, the grant request is submitted to the District Grant Chairman and a committee of various Rotary members thoroughout the District.

Funny thing about the District Grant Chairman this year.  That position has been taken on by the Club's past president Margaret Mudron.  Of course, the Club's grant application was reviewed and approved with Mudron abstaining.

Mudron presented her idea to the Club and they agreed.  The Club chose two recipients for their grant - The Cricket Center in Berlin and Diakonia in West Ocean City.

Members of the club made 120 fleece blankets - both adult size and children size.  In addition to the blankets, 200 hygiene kits were made.  These kits were filled with name brand products appropriate for men, women and children.

The blankets and hygiene kits were delivered to the two groups by members of the Club.

Mudron chose the idea of blankets hoping that the children would have  a “blankie” of their own during a stressful time in their life and that the adults would have a little something that they could take with them when they moved on from Diakonia. Also the Club members wanted to keep their donation local.

The Ocean City - Berlin Rotary Club meets the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month, at 6pm at Don's Seafood & Chop House at the South Gate of Ocean Pines.  For more information email the club at ocberlinrotary@gmail.com
